# Export and share resumes

> Download Reactive Resume resumes as PDF, Word, OpenDocument, Markdown or JSON, or share a public link with an optional password and view statistics.

Reactive Resume gives you two ways to get a resume in front of someone: download a file, or share a link to a live page. Downloads live in the **Download & history** sheet, with **Download PDF** in the editor bar for the most common case. Sharing is the editor's **Share** mode.

## Download a file

The **Download** tab of the **Download & history** sheet offers five formats:

| Format | Best for |
| ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **PDF** | Applications and email. Looks exactly like the page you designed. |
| **Word** (.docx) | Portals or recruiters who ask for Word. The layout is simplified. |
| **OpenDocument** (.odt) | LibreOffice, OpenOffice and other open-source editors. The layout is simplified. |
| **Markdown** (.md) | Plain text with headings, for pasting into application forms and notes. |
| **JSON** | A complete backup of the resume's data, which you can import back into Reactive Resume. |

You can set the file name before downloading. If the resume belongs to a job application that has a cover letter, you can download the letter at the same time. Cover letters download in the same five formats from their own **Download & history** sheet.

## Share a public link

**Publish** in the **Share** mode turns on a web page for the resume at an address such as `rxresu.me/your-username/your-resume`. You choose the last part of the address. From the same panel you can:

- Copy the link or open the web page.
- Let visitors download the PDF, or not.
- Require a password before anyone can view it.
- Make one published resume your primary resume, available at `rx.cv/your-username` on the hosted service or at your instance's address if you self-host. You can also connect your own domain when your server supports it.
- See how many times the page was viewed and the PDF downloaded over the last 30 days.

Web pages ask search engines not to list them unless you turn on **Show in search engines**, and you can hide your contact details from the page, its PDF and search results. Turn the link off and the page stops working immediately.

## When to download and when to share

Download a file when an application asks for an upload, or when you want a fixed copy that will not change. Share a link when the reader can open a URL and should always see your latest version, for example in an email signature, a portfolio or a networking message.

If only certain people should read the resume, add a password. A link on its own is not access control: anyone who has it can open it.

Hiding contact details removes dedicated contact fields from the public page and its PDF; review free text yourself.
Disabling downloads doesn't stop copying or screenshots, and exported files already sent to someone remain with them.
